Melissa Teng is a civic designer and new media artist based in Boston, MA. She explores how different design processes (systemic, critical, and participatory) and emerging technologies can address inequities in access and voice. Melissa is currently an MA candidate in civic media at Emerson College, where she is creating a virtual reality-based tool with a women's prison. Previously she helped to design open data web platforms for governments in North and South America. She also served as a gallery curator at EMW Bookstore, which strives to exhibit artists from underrepresented communities.
