Gustavo Vaca Diez


Director of Special Projects, Clubes de Ciencia Bolivia (Santa Cruz, Bolivia)

Gustavo obtained a B.Sc. in Bioengineering in 2018 from the Buenos Aires Institute of Technology (ITBA) in Buenos Aires, Argentina. While studying, he started working in the Microfluidics Department, where he created device prototypes using PDMS soft-lithography. Later, he worked in the Sequencing Laboratory of the Italian Hospital of Buenos Aires, processing RNA sequence data to call low frequency HCV variants; this work became his senior thesis. Currently, Gustavo is the Director of Special Projects of Clubes de Ciencia Bolivia. This foundation organizes science outreach programs in the country, connecting Bolivian high school and undergraduate students with researchers from premier American and European research universities. Clubes de Ciencia Bolivia also runs the largest hackathon in Bolivia. Gustavo has been part of the team since its inception in 2016. Considered the top STEM education institution in Bolivia, Clubes de Ciencia Bolivia continues to dramatically change the Bolivian biotechnology innovation landscape.
