Nels (he, him, his) has an individualized degree in Biology, Art, and Japan studies from the University of Minnesota. He has worked to introduce biology-based tools to an open co-laboratory, convert 3D printers into low-cost bioprinters, and is striving to visit as many community bio labs as possible with an eventual goal of collaborating to catalyze a scene in Minneapolis.
Recent projects include developing and leading a summer seminar on origami-inspired engineering + design for HLAB in Japan, creating a modular furniture set, and teaching Human Biology. He is currently exploring future directions in fields including soft robotics, biofabrication, biomimetic design, and tissue engineering.
Nels loves volunteering on small farms, exploring, and making almost anything.
